AIP History: Let’s Talk about Abstaining
by LiveFast9986 - No Role

Content: I see that logic (especially with numerous sites that breakdown stats of how we voted and how often). But at a certain point if there is more Voting Power spent Abstaining…we have to take a look at those voters and ask, Why aren’t you making a decision? What is the exact reason.

AIP History: Let’s Talk about Abstaining

Content: My question(s) are then, why vote and what is the message you are senidng?
If these AIPs could have easily swung the opposite way and/or had so much more voting power than the total amount spent on FOR and AGAINST, what is the message these voters have by saying they Abstain.

- bigbull: In other DAOs abstain usually indicates that I read the proposal, don’t like it or hate it, but am willing to participate for it to make the minimum voting quorum and let the vote final outcome be decided to those who vote yes or no.

AIP History: Let’s Talk about Abstaining

Content: GM ApeCoin Community,
I’m trying out new ways of disseminating information about past voting history that I believe to be pertinent, relevant, and informative. If you have comments or feedback please DM them to me.
Today, I wanted to talk about Abstaining in voting. The option to “Abstain” in voting was implemented courtesy of AIP- 200 . But have you ever really paid attention to how many voters and/or how much $APE is spent Abstaining on votes? Ever thought of the possibility that there may have been enough $APE that had Abstained that could of changed the outcome of an AIP? Or, even crazier to think, that more $APE voted to Abstain that the combined $APE voted FOR and AGAINST?
Let me tell you, it has happened before, more than you think and more recently too.
The following is a chart that highlights several AIPs in which the amount of $APE Abstaining was higher than the voting outcome of said AIP.

AIP-552: Pausing Special Council elections pending the outcome of the Governance Revamp AIP vote

Content: Wouldn’t it be more effective for the AIP that revamps governance include a provision that ends the special counsel, thereby ending the need for elections?

- ernestlee: The previous plan for on-chain voting, as stated on the ApeCoin website, included “Implementing on-chain voting” AND still “Voting annually to elect members for the DAO’s Board”; Special Council.
The RESET plan currently proposed would do this and more; adding jobs for the Special Council to perform around communication and coordination between the DAO contractors and the community. These individuals would be beholden to the DAO and subject to removal by vote.
Additionally, the previous plan was also to bring the other jobs currently being performed by 3rd party contractors in-house by …
"Hiring DAO members to take care of administrative, project management, and moderation tasks to replace the company appointed" … to perform those tasks.
I believe that more transparency is needed, not less, and feel that migrating the tasks currently performed by the Special Council to 3rd party contractors is the exactly the opposite and wrong direction for the DAO and would result in less transparency for the community.

AIP-506: Update treasury dashboard to reflect pre-allocated funds
by LiveFast9986 - No Role

Content: Over the last few weeks and months, I’ve started to wonder if it would be in the DAO’s best interest to take me on full-time to start tracking and maintaining this stuff in a spreadsheet.

- SmartAPE: Indeed. As I mentioned in my other AIP, I had no idea that you were actually doing so much work behind-the-scenes. This is data that the DAO needs; and so, in very much the same way that the Foundation hires attorneys, accountants and a variety of other service providers without an AIP, I don’t see why they can’t engage you to do this work. Which is precisely why my proposal puts the onus on the administrative team to get this done.
I suggest that you engage them with now in this regard. Then, between you and membrains team at Nodeblocks, we can get it done efficiently.
Note: as part the Q&A during admin review, I was asked if the Nodeblocks team had agreed to do the work, and if so, they would require a new contract for specifically this. To which I responded that I had in fact been in touch with memebrains team who have agreed to do the dashboard work. So, I believe that your efforts would also fall under the same guidance in that the Foundation would be funding both aspects. tbh, I have no idea why I even needed to write a proposal to do this; but here we are.
