AIP-539: Podcastization of ApeCoin Ecosystem’s X Spaces (Resubmission)

Content: Great to see you resubmitting @Dany 319 !
I do have a question. How will these be significantly different from what is being delivered through AIP- 390 : ApeCast - An app that supercharges your listening experience for all things ApeCoin (Resubmission)?
I had forgotten about that AIP until I saw this post:
ApeCast to catch up on Spaces and Crypto Podcasts General
We passed an AIP a while back that was to create an app for ApeCoin related Spaces, with transcriptions, translations and summaries. This update threads is the progress log. Long story short, the app has been out for a while. You can search for “ApeCast” on either the app store or play store.
Some of the key features:
Has transcriptions - easy to follow along if you cant fully understand the audio.
Has chapter summaries. So a long episode is divided up into chapters and summarized. This way …

An open discussion on ways to improve the DAO - An open call to anyone interested in helping.
by adventurousape - Regular
Posted on: Sept. 28, 2024, 5:49 a.m.
Content: Welcome to the forum @CraniumCalvin! I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on how to fix the ApeCoin DAO.
As far as getting everyone aligned behind a mission statement, I know @SmartAPE already mentioned that we had AIP- 256 , but that was not the first attempt. That AIP was a resubmission from @badteeth. Before that, he had AIP- 191 , which was deemed to Return for Reconstruction. This happened during the time of Working Group Zero (WG 0 ), where I served as a Steward alongside Badteeth. At first, we even considered incorporating the mission statement into WG 0 .
Badteeth spent months facilitating mission statement workshops with the community. He gathered feedback through surveys in five different languages, hosted discussions in a dedicated channel in the ApeCoin Discord, shared Google Docs open for comments, and conducted polls—all in an effort to build consensus on a mission statement that everyone could agree on. This was back when the DAO was still in its early stages and hadn’t yet started accepting funds, so the focus was on a grants-based DAO.
The result was this mission statement, which incorporated the feedback: “ApeCoin DAO exists to distribute $APE – empowering our community to build and participate in the future of the Greater Metaverse, today.”
If you’re interested in a deeper dive, Badteeth even documented the entire process:

ApeCoin DAO Mission Statement

One of the difficulties in reaching consensus is that not all voters are engaged with the DAO’s daily activities. Though everything was shared along the way, not all voters took notice during that phase, so there wasn’t unanimous agreement and we opted to not make it a part of WG 0 .
Throughout my time at the DAO, the closest thing I have seen as a mission statement is this from the early days:

- CraniumCalvin: GM,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am overwhelmed by the feedback I have received so far, especially as I am a newcomer.
Also, thank you for sharing all of this information, I will digest the document you linked over the weekend.

This was of course a very relevant mission statement when the DAO originally launched, and perhaps given that the ecosystem was very small back then, it was very easy to understand the overall goals of the DAO. I think now that it has been around for a while, and we have ApeChain launching it feels like the right time to expand on this. For me it’s still pretty easy to see a clear direction, as all the current things the DAO does directly correlate to the overall expansion of the $APE ecosystem.
adventurousape:
One of the difficulties in reaching consensus is that not all voters are engaged with the DAO’s daily activities.
IMO this is one of the biggest issues we face. The overall centralisation of voting power can be credited to both the sheer amount of voter apathy and the lack of voter equality. I feel that the lack of voter equality is likely a contributing factor to the lack of participation, but not the only thing.
Bear markets are always slow, and participation was likely effected massively by this. I think as the market picks up we have a chance to attract more participation. If we can find a way to incentivise the majority to participate, we massively reduce the centralisation we are seeing.
This could be a less dramatic way to create positive change. As we know, the larger token holders, hold all the cards right now. The more members we can incentivise to vote, the less power the larger holders have, and the more decentralised the DAO becomes. This is no different to the current sentiment in society right now, the majority hold so much power, we just need to wake them up.
So, the question remains. How can we restore confidence, and lower voter apathy?
I still believe we need to move away from a system of voting where members can buy influence. But this is not likely a proposal that will pass until we increase participation from the majority.
Thank you for you input and insight into some of the DAOs history. When I have a bee in my bonnet I don’t give up easily, so I am here to stay. Your continued input would be very much appreciated, I feel a revolution is beginning to take shape.

Thank you @adventurousape for this backstory and context. It’s very valuable to see what the DAO felt was a solid previous iteration of a mission statement. And respect to @badteeth for both a great username and what sounds like a tremendous amount of labor for the DAO.

August 2024 ApeCoin DAO Secretary Transparency Report
by adventurousape - Regular
Posted on: Sept. 24, 2024, 3:20 a.m.
Content: I agree the language needs to be tightened up. It was difficult to predict how things would be interpreted in the future, especially for situations that didn’t yet exist, which is why the Reflection Period was included—to address any mistakes.
Looking back, I also think the Secretary role should have been independent, rather than being under a specific Working Group. This would help to ensure unbiased oversight, transparency, and accountability across all Working Groups. Without independence, the role risks becoming influenced by the very groups it is meant to bring oversight to, which could lead to conflicts of interest and diminish its effectiveness in serving the broader DAO.

Content: Yeah, Vulkan went above and beyond. The Newsletter also was not a task of the Secretary. He did get paid to do it through AIP- 66 : ApeCoin Newsletter - Ecosystem Fund Allocation, but that was only for a year, ending mid 2023 , and he continued doing it for free after that.

Posted on: Sept. 12, 2024, 2:42 a.m.
Content: Thanks again for the thoughtful response, AC! I appreciate how open you’ve been to discussing these ideas, and it’s great to hear that future AIPs will address some of these shifts.
Regarding the DAO calendar, I’m definitely interested in learning more about what you have in mind. Not sure if I have the bandwidth to take it on entirely myself, but I’d still love to help out where I can and contribute to getting it off the ground.
Happy to hop on a call to discuss your vision for it and see how I might be able to support!
Thanks again for being so open to feedback. Looking forward to chatting!
