Implementation Update | AIP-390: ApeCast - An app that supercharges your listening (Resubmission)
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: Oct. 28, 2024, 12:59 a.m.
Content: Hey, thanks for the feedback!
The search works for words that are indexed. Right now only podcast and episode names are indexed for the home search. Since “BOTB” is not a term used anywhere, its not showing up.
We are working on fixing the share system - currently broken. Should be fixed in the next update, along with some UI improvements.

ApeCast to catch up on Spaces and Crypto Podcasts
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: Sept. 29, 2024, 11:32 a.m.
Content: We passed an AIP a while back that was to create an app for ApeCoin related Spaces, with transcriptions, translations and summaries. This update threads is the progress log. Long story short, the app has been out for a while. You can search for “ApeCast” on either the app store or play store.
Some of the key features:
Has transcriptions - easy to follow along if you cant fully understand the audio.
Has chapter summaries. So a long episode is divided up into chapters and summarized. This way you can skip around to the most interesting parts.
Summaries are multi lingual.
Has transcripts and summaries of other crypto podcasts as well. It also tells you where the ads are so you can skip it!
One of the other things we did was clean up the audio and improve the vocals of 4 spaces in the ApeCoin ecosystem. If you compare the audio quality to the original spaces, these are much better and clearer. It’s also a lot easier to skip around and navigate.
ApeComms
RSS Spotify Apple
Spaces hosted by @ApeCoin and @ApeComms
ApeCoin GWG
RSS Spotify Apple
Spaces hosted by @ApeCoinGWG
Bulls on the Block Weekly
RSS Spotify Apple
Spaces hosted by @bullsontheblock
United Grand Hall of the Mocaverse
RSS Spotify Apple
Spaces hosted by @Mocaverse_Hall
You can listen to all of the above in any of your existing podcast players, or on the ApeCast app itself. The advantage of listening on ApeCast is that you get the transcripts and the summaries. We didn’t want to trap the cleaned audio, so we’re letting people listen to them where ever they like
With this we have reached the original goals and intentions. We’re working on adding more features to continue to deliver beyond what was promised. We’re excited to build for the ecosystem!

$APE Holding Minimum for Grant Requests
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: Aug. 4, 2024, 10:45 a.m.
Content: I’m getting strong gatekeeping vibes on this one. Especially after you just got an insane 750 k Ape proposal passed for a DEX fork. No crazy greenfield development - just a dex with new tokenomics. I can live with the outcome because at the end of the day the DAO voted on it. Who am I to be outraged.
But now you’re proposing people hold an insane amount of ape coin, almost as much as you asked, just to write proposals?
I’d like to echo @chimperton - do you hold as much? (without what the foundation gave you for the proposal) If not, are you willing to lock a significant portion of the grant? You know, for “Preservation of $APE price/value and deeper alignment within the community.”.

AIP-459: The Apemobile - Guerrilla marketing meets a KOL partnership
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: June 16, 2024, 3:26 a.m.
Content: I have a few concerns here:
I’m worried you aren’t paying for a good driver to take care of this beauty. I assume you’ll be the perfect driver for it? Please include those costs.
When is the AIP going to vote? The fact that you haven’t made the necessary back room deals to make this happen makes me think you don’t have what it takes to execute this AIP.
You mention taking it for events, so please include your generous transportation costs. Private charter is preferable.

AIP-454: The BANANA Bill: Apes Gotta Eat
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: June 14, 2024, 11:53 a.m.
Content: For a fund this size, you can’t help but draw parallels between this and the Arbitrum gaming fund that recently passed. Optics aside (which was terrible), the whole community felt it was forced and too large. Even for the largest DeFi chain. There are even accusations of grifting, with even Hsaka tweeting about it.
ApeChain doesn’t even exist yet, and this is asking for a fund that is valued about half that. At least with the Arb fund, the authors had plenty of gaming experience and came from various crypto gaming areas. In this, its all Yuga staff with space for one or two people with actual relevant experience. These critical hires haven’t even been decided yet, but the fund size and structure has been. Aren’t the opinions of these critical hires important? Shouldn’t they have a say on how large the fund is, what the charter is etc etc? It’s like we are expecting to magically find a person to shoehorn into this structure that they had no input on, and then expect them to perform to a high standard. It’s putting the cart before the horse. These critical hires should be part of this AIP, not an after thought.
I fully echo @kodama’s and @pirex’s messages. This is required but the scale and structure seems very off. I can guarantee you that if this passes, it will be viewed unfavourably to put it mildly. The arb grant structure was much better and that was viewed badly, so its not hard to guess how this will be viewed. If we are trying to attract more people to the DAO, optics are extremely important. How this gets pushed through will matter.

THIS!!!
Very well said. I 100% agree.
The only explanation is frens > talent.
Nepotism at its finest… once again.

However, if we believe that by just having a 100m fund builders/projects will all come on their own, then we are mistaken.

I wonder about the concept of breaking things down into bite sized pieces
Starting with a banana instead of the full forest
I agree entirely that we all need to rally behind and support ApeChain, and that allocating a portion of the DAO Treasury to help launch projects on it makes 100% sense
What about starting with a $10M fund first, distributing it using this AIPs proposes process before the end of Q4 this year, tracking and reporting on the metrics/success/impact it had, then coming for a further $10M - $25M for Q1 2025?
Does that seem like a reasonable compromise?
Eating one banana at a time instead of forcing it all out all at once?

AIP-449: Translation System and Community Reward Program
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: May 23, 2024, 9:15 a.m.
Content: I’m struggling to see how this will cost over $ 400 , 000 .
The primary purpose of this AIP is that it is going to be a translation layer. There are no details on how the actual translation will happen. Is this the cost to perpetually translate all AIPs? In that case I’m assuming you will use an automated solution to translate. In that case do you have a proprietary translation system? How does it compare to all the AI translation software available in the market?
Right now I can automatically translate everything for free and instantly using google translate within the browser. If I want to write, I can use AI translators like chatGPT. This will get 95 % of the meaning across. The only way I can get close to 100 % is by having a human translator. But I don’t think you plan on using human translation. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Using most of these translation tools are close to free, so why does it cost over $ 400 , 000 ? Where is the value add?

AIP-455: ApeCoin Sponsorship for MY Token 2024 Event
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: May 23, 2024, 8:36 a.m.
Content: I have some questions:
Regarding the venue, I can’t seem to find it. Could you please link it?
Do you have an estimate of how many people will attend?
Are you targeting foreigners (i.e. people living outside of Malaysia) to fly in for the event?
The amount asked for is reasonable only if there is significant value added. For most events in places like Singapore and HK people fly in for the events which increases the target audience size. This seems more targeted towards locals and me not being able to find the venue is a little concerning.

AIP-405: [Resubmission] ApeSwap on ApeChain
by leyota - Accepted AIP Author
Posted on: March 2, 2024, 6:56 a.m.
Content: Without mincing words I’ll come right out and say it.
The price is egregious and I’m struggling to understand how the costs are this high. Your proposal is asking for over $ 1 . 5 million dollars. For a DEX
Every single L 2 right now has a dex, and most of them are self funded or funded through minor ecosystem grants. Almost every single DEX is a fork of one of the major dexes, and in some cases there’s licensing agreements but nothing this high. On top of providing this massive grant, the DAO receives only 50 % of revenue. As an extra kicker there’s going to be a TGE for this, which the DAO doesn’t have full control of.
DEXes are literally a dime a dozen and considered a commodity product at this point. Just like L 2 chains. We just had an RFP for an L 2 chain and I don’t see any reason why we can’t have one for a DEX. If we offer up $ 1 , 000 , 000 , which is an insanely large number by the way, as a bounty for a completely DAO owned dex with a TGE that is fully controlled by the DAO I’m willing to bet we would have 10 s of application minimum. For a fraction of the cost we can have a fruitful partnership with one of the other DEXes.
I’m really sorry if this sounds harsh but this feels like an insane cash grab to me. You could prove that I’m completely off base here by giving more insight into the costs. I’m seeing no novel web 3 development because you’ll be using SushiSwap and standard token contracts. Just some development for the token logic. There are entire novel web 3 products that receive seed funding of less than $ 1 , 500 , 000 . This isn’t a novel product.
To summarize: I think we should do an RFP. If we don’t, even if we don’t fund a DEX, I’m certain a team will automatically come and build one because it’s a profitable endeavour. They get to keep the profits. If we pay $ 1 , 500 , 000 for a commodity product, and only get 50 % of revenue and don’t fully control the TGE, I feel like I should rethink my bull market multiplier on product development costs
EDIT: I just re read your old proposal. There you ask for 39 , 000 APE (when APE was around 5 ) which was about $ 200 , 000 . The same proposal is now 7 x more expensive?

- alexmccurry: Hey Leyota, I appreciate the feedback and comments.
While the ask is significant, we feel that this proposal will vastly deliver more value back to the DAO and ApeCoin holders than the cost. The thing to remember with this cost breakdown is that launching a DEX properly with a proper partner like Sushi requires extensive resourcing, planning, manpower, and budget for things like design, development, testing, audits, marketing, legal, compliance, tokenomics modeling and testing, and much more. We recently updated the proposal with a more concrete breakdown of costs, and bear in mind that this proposal also includes a year of maintenance costs which also encapsulates the need for ongoing legal and compliance, marketing, and engineering capacity.
While the cost is significant, this proposal delivers the DAO its first real stream of revenue with a product that would be supported and backed by the entire ecosystem. The value in the token allocation to the DAO treasury alone, in our opinion, will likely far outweigh the costs. Not to mention the recurring revenue back to the DAO, and the value that individual $APE holders will get via an airdrop.
(For clarity on original proposal, it was very different, that was a Uni V2 reskin with no support from Sushi or any other major DEX player, no TGE, and was just to be launched on ETH mainnet with no marketing or ongoing budgeting being considered. Much less opportunity or upside for DAO and way less work.)
The DAO has invested tens and tens of millions of dollars over the course of the existence of the DAO, with little to no clarity as to how that will reward holders, or create sustainable income streams to the treasury.
With this proposal and investment, we finally have a path forward for how we can achieve that.
Happy to discuss this in more depth and always welcome questions and feedback from the community. Thank you!
