[Mission Request] Increase Prevalence of Non-USD/EURO Stablecoins
by lefterisjp - No Role
Posted on: Oct. 4, 2024, 6:20 p.m.
Content: I am not sure this is actually a good target at the moment. Unless you mean GBP and CHF related stablecoins.
For optimism to thrive it should be the place with the most volume and liquidity of USD/EUR denominated stables.
If this has not happened yet (it has not afaik) spending resources on other stuff does not make much sense.
Ofc if it’s just a small experiment it should not hurt, but am just saying we should be cautious and keep our eyes on the prize.

- Michael: Thanks Lefteris!
I definitely agree we should target EUR (and USD) with much more grant power and that having the deepest liquidity and lowest slippage on these presents a massive opportunity.
I personally think that there is a lot of potential to bringing long-tail currencies onchain via stablecoins. For example just 5 currencies; BDT, PHP, ETB, VND, and EGP, unlocks potential for more than 600million people.
I’d much rather see grant money go towards this underdeveloped space than fighting 5 other L2s to deploy the 10th LRT onto Optimism.
That said, it is an underdeveloped market and I agree that this should be thought of as an experiment. There was just a tiny amount of grants budget left over for this season and I thought this could be a worthwhile exploration.

Accelerated Decentralization Proposal For Optimism
by lefterisjp - No Role
Posted on: Sept. 19, 2024, 6:52 a.m.
Content: I am quite happy to see this conversation.
I think we should strive for better decentralization of the Optimism ecosystem as indeed at the moment it’s firmly at the hands of the foundation.
I appreciate that the foundation has a roadmap for this decentralization but it’s been years already and the progress is quite slow. Especially when compared with other L 2 s.
We can do better.

I have followed and interacted with Corey over the years and though yes there is no specific Optimism alignment, his experience, talents and good ethics are qualities one should want to see from a security council member.

by lefterisjp - No Role
Posted on: Aug. 16, 2024, 5:41 p.m.
Content: This seems like a highly technical upgrade so though the post makes sense I can’t say I myself can say it’s all fine.
I will trust the auditors and developers here and just give the okay as a delegate for this to go to a vote.
I am an optimism delegate 4 with sufficient voting power and I believe the proposal is ready to move to a vote.
