TL, DR
Zenbit is an R&D laboratory building public goods for cities. We have been deploying our contracts in the Optimism network and testnet since 2022 , and now we are building Zenbit Badges, a dapp to attest in OP Mainnet the progress of new users in their journey to use decentralized technologies; along with OPcity, a research, and implementation of the OP stack that aims to expand the Fault Proofs memory capabilities to manage disputes from OPml and oppAI states along with the ones produced by OP geth. We will share updates on these projects in this post.
1 . About Us
Zenbit began 2 by addressing the needs of a neighborhood in Querétaro, Mexico, collaborating with residents and local government to implement transparent and sustainable solutions. Over time, we have evolved into an organization that connects regional and international talent to build decentralized infrastructure and applications using Open Source Software (OSS) and advanced Ethereum tools, aiming to improve urban management and enhance citizens’ quality of life.

OP city: A research and implementation of the OP stack to develop a rollup dedicated to cities. It integrates functionalities for Large Language Models (LLM) inferences in public data processing through Optimistic Machine Learning (opML) and provides privacy tools via ZK and Optimistic Privacy-Preserving AI (oppAI). We will research the compatibility of the OP stack’s Canon Fault Proof VM with the opML’s Multi-Phase Fault Proof protocol. The goal is to implement a custom Fault Dispute Game that manages the challenges related to data availability states from the L 2 rollup and the computation results from the Deep Neural Networks (DNN) of the multi-phase opML. This project was proposed in collaboration with Dr. Cathie for a Builders Grant during Season 5 in Intent 1 : Progress towards technical decentralization, which was granted during cycle 22 . It will be developed over 12 months starting this month.

Milestones - zenbitETH/OPcity
Contribute to zenbitETH/OPcity development by creating an account on GitHub.
These are our detailed milestones:
OP Stack Benchmark 1 :gear:
This milestone was initially proposed in the first draft of our governance proposal, OP City. However, we decided to limit its scope **and did not include it in the final proposal. We still needed to research the OP stack to develop the practical knowledge required for the OP City proposal, so we are undertaking this task in preparation for the upcoming milestones.
The OP stack benchmark involves researching, documenting, and comparing the performance of the OP stack before and after the implementation of Span batches, Data Blobs, and Fault Proofs in the most recent network upgrades. We are running a Holesky node and deploying the OP stack there to generate metrics for this experiment and benchmark its performance with multiple configurations, including:
Comparison between Calldata and Data Blobs in the OP Stack Deployment
Comparison with November 2023 data from previous development
Comparison with OP stack variants
Comparison with L 2 data layer alternatives
Data generation and histograms visualization
Analysis of multiple configurations impact on the OP stack cost operation
Research on Canon Fault Proofs compatibility between OP stack and opML :gear:
This milestone contribute to the objectives described in the OP City governance proposal. It begins with a review of Fault Proofs theory and its current implementations in blockchain systems. Our goal is to establish a theoretical framework to identify the compatibility of the OP stack interactive games with additional data structures related to Optimistic Machine Learning (opML). We aim to leverage these interactive games to resolve disputes related to merkalized data originating from both technologies.
The following milestones are pending upon the completion of the first two:
Research on oppAI compatibility with the OP stack :hourglass_flowing_sand:
Development of OPcity POC + oppAI :hourglass_flowing_sand:
Alpha / Beta testing of OPcity Stack :hourglass_flowing_sand:

Zenbit Logs / 3 Q 2024
Hey Superchain fam, here is an update of the activities during the Q 3 2024
Zenbit Badges
We have released Zenbit Badges version 0 . 1 . 0 (MVP).
We introduced the Web 3 Skills Framework to be the design charter of Zenbit Badges.
We started a pilot test of the DAO incubation program with Axolotarium DAO.
We began to collaborate with SEED on prototyping a ZB fork and a governance skills path for ZB.
We prototyped token distribution for ZB schemas by developing AttestDeFi during the Superhack.
We have made significant progress in completing the milestones for the Zenbit Badges MVP by releasing v. 0 . 1 . 0 and starting the design of the Web 3 Skills Framework, a curated set of activities and knowledge required to get role-based Badges and verify onchain’s completion of the tasks.
As part of this framework design, we are pleased to announce the start of our DAO Incubation pilot program on Zenbit Badges. We designed this program for university projects conducting scientific research or technology development that can leverage Web 3 tools to socialize and fund their initiatives. Throughout this process, participants have acquired essential knowledge in using Web 3 tools for DAO management and development and strategies for documentation and communication in decentralized environments. The program has 8 Badges to be obtained by the participants, each requiring them to complete a set of activities and tasks that are later verified onchain with Zenbit Badges:
:medal_military:ZB 1 / Web 3 Introduction
:medal_military:ZB 2 / DAO Formation

OP City
We have summarized our progress in a Mirror article (con traducción al español), which include:
OP Stack Theoretical Framework
Node & Rollups setup
OP stack version benchmark
Proposed changes to Canon FPVM
OPcity was approved to be part of the Optimism Retro Funding Round 5
We have been deeply engaged in the OP City project, and so far we have nearly completed our first two milestones: the OP Stack Benchmark and the Research on Canon Fault Proofs compatibility between the OP stack and opML. We have documented the progress and key findings on these milestones on a mirror article available in enlglish and spanish. in the Retro Funding 5 : OP Stack.
Until now, the most relevant insight on our research is the lower operation cost of running the default activity of a rollup, found between the OP Stack V 4 . 0 . 0 and the V 7 . 0 . 0
Additionally, we set up and ran our Holesky node and deployed in June a rollup using OP Stack V 7 . 0 . 0 Fjord with our own RPC, one using the calldata method and the other data blobs. Our objective was to track the transaction fee consumption of the Batcher and Proposer, comparing the results with a previous deployment in December that used OP Stack V 4 . 0 . 0 Canyon and a third-party RPC provider. In all three deployments, our objective was to analyze the fee consumption of the Batcher and Proposer.

Between December 2023 and June 2024 , we observed that total gas fees used in default rollup transactions decreased by approximately 75 %, from 10 . 63 to 2 . 59 ETH, while daily costs dropped from 1 . 5 to 0 . 37 ETH. Our key findings between the June deployments are A significant reduction in the number of transactions made by the Batcher and Proposer addresses, with about 50 % less activity, and Approximately 65 % less gas fees used by the rollup.
We have documented this knowledge and expertise with the respective links in an article on Mirror in English and Spanish. This represents a valuable opportunity for collaboration with Spanish-speaking developers, as there is significantly less information available in Spanish compared to English.
