Remove Election Phases/Stages/Rounds:
TEAM DESCRIPTION:
@furiousanger - DAO member.
PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION:
Election phases/stages/rounds (whatever the title given) will be discontinued and the process streamlined.
Elections will start and finish inside the current voting period without any phases/stages/rounds.
BENEFIT TO APECOIN ECOSYSTEM:
Phases/stages/rounds (terms used) are unnecessary. They interfere with entrants’ momentum; boost and deflate people’s drive once results are declared; makes the following “part” highly predictable and unattractive to the community.
By looking at past elections a clear pattern emerges - whoever was at the top stays at the top and wins.
Phases/stages/rounds potentially undermine any benefits that could be realised by a shielded voting strategy.
DEFINITIONS:
Phases/stages/rounds - how parts of the election cycle are described in AIPs. All mean the same - elections are split up.
STEPS TO IMPLEMENT:
Elections will be run with the same schedule as an AIP vote.
Make elections reflect the current voting period with no more phases/stages/rounds.
OVERALL COST:
ZERO COST.
The post discusses a proposal to remove election phases/stages/rounds within the APECOIN ecosystem. The proposal aims to streamline the process by conducting elections within the current voting period without splitting them up into phases/stages/rounds. The benefits include avoiding interference with momentum, boosting and deflating participants' drive, and making the process less predictable and more attractive to the community. The implementation steps involve aligning elections with the current voting period and incurring zero costs.

WGs are setup with weighted voting in both rounds, whereas Special Council has two different voting strategies. Would it be possible to additionally address that within this proposal? Or do you think setting voting strategy for each should be a separate AIP?
furiousanger: I think it would be beneficial to hear from people who have run in the elections. I only see things from the sidelines. Definitely a line that needs to be added in. Thoughts?

I definitely agree that streamlining voting is important, as voter apathy and confusion run high the longer and more complex the process. Also, the longer the process, the more time gets spent on backchanneling and campaigning. @furiousanger when you say “phases/stages/rounds”, are these synonyms or different actual stages in the ApeCoin election process?
Also, to @ 0 xSword’s point, if there are differerent voter weighting schemes used in different elections, this can be confusing to voters. Are all votes in ApeCoin non-quadratic?

Yes all non-quadratic. The weighted schemes had a AIP recently to align a part, & there’s another I think in administration - also a reason why I felt the need to abolish all the separation and make into one united event - sometimes simpler is better?

Coming from someone who wrote the nomination forms from scratch this cycle and assembled/wrote the announcements to go with them, based on previous writings (which I should have written from scratch as well), the official language used for our elections needs to be entirely changed.
It creates huge amounts of confusion.
AC
furiousanger: The difference in language used - certainly not anybody’s fault - as you say over time these things happen naturally.
Onto the streamlined approach into one event with no phases - are you against the idea or have any reasons why it wouldn’t work or why should stay as it is?

0xSword: Hey I looked more into this. Chewed it over. As of right now, you have a very clean and simple proposal. Voters can easily read it. Makes a lot of sense. Trying to correct the differences in voting strategies is probably best done through separate AIPs. As for this AIP, it’s good-to-go. Send it.
If interested in updating the strategies, there’s a proposal that passed and a proposal in review. One by All City, and one by BigBull. Your writing style is much easier to read (which is a good thing imo tbh). This proposal to remove rounds or phases is simple and straight forward. Should prob keep it that way. Looks like a winner.

I agree - when it comes to voting I believe it’s kind of like the blockchain - that there should be a coherent, immutable, transparent, decentralized, interoperable and composable system that works without needing to understand a variety of schemes in different contexts or elections. I personally prefer quadratic voting to minimize the political influence of whales, but I agree that voting systems need to be easy to explain and understand, especially in this global post-truth society of diminished trust.
